New at Wild Dill, animal doll friends from Hazel Village!

We are a little obsessed with the adorable new woodland doll animals from Hazel Village. Featuring a full range of fun animals from a Fox to Owl, Rabbit and even Bear Cub they've got your forest covered! Each little friend comes with removable clothes that can be swapped with other Hazel Village friends.
The mastermind behind these adorable organic dolls is the very talented Jane Van Cleef from Brooklyn, NY. Jane designs each animal and their fabulous outfits, creates a story and name for each one so they truly come alive before finding a good home with a sweet child.
Founded in Brooklyn in 2010, each animal is hand stitched using 100% organic fleece cotton and hypoallergenic polyfill stuffing, so they are soft and safe for babies. And, because they are all the same size, the animal’s wardrobe choices are endless, too! Check out Hazel Village woodland heirloom dolls and adorable bird rattles, perfect for birthday or holiday gift giving here on Wild Dill.

Here is Jane with one of her adorable friends Gwendolyn the Raccoon. And below are some friends at play!

Birth and Baby Fair 2014!

We had a wonderful time at the 2014 SF Birth and Baby Fair. If you live in the SF Bay Area and are expecting or have small children this is a great local event held 2x year. You can see photos of the vendors here on this Pinterest board.

This year we were lucky enough to have a table next to the very sweet and insanely talented Blanca of For The QTs and her daughter Michele.

Blanca hand knits teeny tiny baby hats from the softest, premium cotton imported from Italy. The colors are so beautiful and her designs are truly one of a kind. The little flowers are so realistic and make a sweet touch to each hat. We hope to carry some of her merchandise soon...

Brand Spotlight: Ideo Collection Paris

Ideo Collection is a brand of organic cotton baby clothing from Paris, exclusively available in the US through Wild Dill.

History

Ideo was the first French designer to launch an ethical and environmentally friendly products range in 2002. The success was immediate and many competitors have followed since. Ideo offers now creative and original fair trade and organic collections for babies, children and adults.
The Ideo Design Inspiration
Every season Ideo finds a new angle to mix fashion, ecology and ethics and develop new themes: French Renaissance, nomadism, importance of water on earth, or eco focus. The prints of Ideo, such as World Citizen “Citoyen du Monde” or “Ecokid” are bestsellers of the brand. At Wild Dill we love their top quality onesies and french style dresses.

The Ideo Materials
Ideo uses soft organic certified cotton grown traditionally in Central India by using local and naturally occurring pesticides from plant and animal matter. Ideo received the Ecocert label for the cotton culture and the Skal label for the manufacturing process. All prints are water based on light colors, and PVC free on darker colors. The white color is obtained with peroxide and not with bleach.

Brand Love: Ecoleeko, bringing sustainability, color and joy to children's toys

made in usarecommended baby shower gifts

Ecoleeko is a wonderful brand of organic and sustainable and colorfulsoft plush toys for babies and kids from NY state. Each piece is designed and handmade by Sue, a true artist and trained textile designer.

She is truly committed to keeping the toys eco-friendly and sustainable, only plant based fabrics and stuffing are used, NO petroleum based materials.Every plush toy is totally free of plastic materials and very child friendly. Materials include: (see below for detailed explanations); organic cotton fabric and threads, Bamboo fabrics, Kapok fibers, Buckwheat Hulls, Walnut Shells.

A few of my personal favorites as baby shower gifts are the unique little animal rattles. Especially the little seahorse, since it stands out from the usual Safari animals.

I also love the white stuffed animal bunny rabbit and polar bear teddy, they are such a classic design. They also seem to have such realistic faces, I imagine a little girl or boy giving them a name and personality.

Organic Cotton:  Organic Cotton is grown using NO pesticides or chemicals. The organic cotton materials I use are certified organic, including the corduroy, french terry cloth, brushed cotton, cotton tape used in the ecoleeko tags and the sewing thread I use for all items. The Organic Cotton Fabric is certified organic under the Global Organic Textile Standard, or GOTS.

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing sustainable plant grown without pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. It is a high-yield renewable resource and one of the strongest building materials. When grown, it aids the soil quality and reduces greenhouse gases. It can absorb 5 times the amt. of Carbon Dioxide and produce 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees, pretty impressive.
The bamboo fiber is 60% more absorbent than cotton fiber. It naturally wicks moisture away from the skin and soft as silk but machine washable.
Kapok fiber is grown from the seed pods of the wild Kapok tree. It is a natural vegetable based fiber known as silk cotton. It is a very sustainable, natural pesticide free material grown in the South pacific. It is naturally like down fibers but hypoallergenic. It is also water and mold resistant, drying quickly and very buoyant.
There is NO comparison when considering the polyfil, petroleum based plastic fibers usually used in most children's dolls.

Buckwheat Hulls are a by product of the buckwheat milling industry. It is a natural, pest and water resistant product that is sustainable, hypoallergenic and pesticide free. They are naturally grown in North America and have been roasted for a more durable hull.

They create a great crunchy sound when touched and when shaken, create a rattle effect. They are a better natural choice to use, than using plastic pieces in baby products.

Walnut shells crushed are a nontoxic biodegradable material. They are naturally nonabsorbent, mold resistant and dust free. The shells are usually used for other applications but they work well as a beanbag filler natural alternative to the petroleum based plastic pellets usually used in children's toys.

I use walnut shells only in the Doll legs and arms. (Allergy notice)
