Earth Baby the Compostable Diaper Service

The Eco-Problem of Conventional Diapers
As we near Earth Day 2017 it seems fitting to write about the environmental impact our little ones many diapers have on the planet. Conventional diapers are great for convenience but terrible for the environment. Cloth is a great alternative but here in drought stricken California the water needed for cloth has an equally tough impact on our limited resources.

What Can I Do About it?

If you live in the California Bay Area, consider using Earth-Baby the only compostable diaper service! Earth Baby Compostable Diaper Service will deliver and pick-up compostable diapers and wipes at your front door. Within 14 weeks, we turn your baby's waste into dirt, now how cool is that!

Read on for the story behind the company and find out if they are available in your area. I personally use their diaper service and am a huge fan for the great diapers and wipes (no leaks, great for sensitive skin, and easy pick-up and delivery of soiled and new diapers) that head straight out for professional composting.

The problem with conventional diapers
When you have a baby, you have to make a decision on what type of diapers you want to use.  Some parents choose cloth and some choose to use conventional diapers like Pampers, Huggies, etc.  Granted these diapers are great and easier to use, but have you ever thought of how much space they take up in the landfill after you toss them out?

Diaper waste is a growing environmental concern that has not yet been addressed by the zero-waste movement. With over 95% of American babies being diapered in single use diapers, they are entering the landfills at a rate of 18 billion diapers annually; which breaks down to 3 billion in California and 375 million diapers every year in our 9 Bay Area counties alone.  In the U.S. the average child will wear diapers for 3 years, which yields more than 1,250 pounds of diaper waste per child (at an average of 3.8 diapers per pound, that's nearly 5,500 diapers per child!) that, if not composted, will end up in landfills.

The solution
EarthBaby is a one of a kind diaper service that provides a sustainable diapering alternative to landfill or laundry in the San Francisco Bay Area. From it’s inception in 2008, our mission has been to eliminate diapers and wipes from local landfills.

How the service works
EarthBaby delivers fully compostable diapering products, collects the dirty diapers, and professionally composts them into nutrient rich topsoil in only 14 to 16 weeks. Currently, EarthBaby composts approximately 20,000 pounds of diaper waste per week and to date has composted over 4.8 million pounds of diapers.

Naty diapers
Naty diapers are made from non-GMO corn and FSC certified wood pulp, and absorb and perform in the same way as the leading disposable diaper brands made from petroleum-based plastics.

Earth Baby makes diapering eco-friendly and easy for parents by giving them the option to diaper their baby in single-use diapers without the harsh, long lasting environmental impact. You can read how it works here

Remember, every month is earth month and we need to keep the planet safe and healthy for our children. Consider what you can do to make diapering less of a strain on our earth by considering cloth diapers or a Earth Baby compostable diaper service!
